2022 has been a very positive year with strong quarter-on-quarter results for Kibali Gold Mine, one of the largest gold mines in Africa.

During this year, the investment of Kibali Gold Mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) exceeded the bar of 4.4 billion USD. And 1.2 billion USD was paid for various taxes and fees. This was announced by Mark Bristow, Chairman and CEO of Barrick Gold, during the 47th press conference held on Monday, January 30, 2023, in Kinshasa.

According to him, nearly 2.4 billion USD was used to pay the bills of subcontractors and suppliers of abuse.

In front of media professionals, civil society organizations, national deputies, some members of the Congolese Government, business leaders and students, Mark Bristow explained the various activities carried out by this company during the year 2022.

This mining giant has introduced this accountability exercise out of a duty of transparency in its actions in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Mark Bristow also indicated that the Kibali field continues to offer additional value. Also, current drilling is focused on converting resources to reserves and exploiting veins that are still open at depth.

The Mengu Hill, Ikanva and Gorumbwa targets have the potential to bolster Kibali’s underground portfolio.

“Kibali is a very profitable operation with its three world-class hydropower plants covering most of its energy needs. They will be supplemented by a new 17MW solar power plant which, when completed in 2025, will increase the share of renewable energies in the mine’s energy sources from 81% to 93%. said Mark Bristow.

Present at this conference, Cyrille Mutombo, Country Director of Kibali, said that the mining company is continuing its program to support the conservation of biodiversity in the Garamba National Park with the reintroduction of rhinos from South Africa. South. The first 16 rhinos are expected by the end of the second quarter of this year and will be followed by 60 more over the next three years.

It should also be noted that the reforestation program set up by Kibali has made it possible to plant 10,000 trees during its activity in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Barrick Mark Bristow has told the Congolese press that in line with Barrick’s overall policy of employing and promoting host country nationals, Arthur Kabila has been appointed as Kibali’s first Congolese Managing Director.

For the year 2023, this mining company plans to beat its own gold production record in the Democratic Republic of Congo by bringing new technology with the automation of the underground mine.

This press conference was also an opportunity for Kibali Gold Mine to award scholarships to two students enrolled in geology at the University of Kinshasa.

Still within the framework of sharing, two NGOs received a check each for the actions carried out in favor of the local population.

Kibali’s partner media professionals took this opportunity of the first press conference of the year 2023 to present a painting to Mark Bristow and Cyrille Mutombo, a symbol of frank collaboration.
