The mining sector of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will benefit, in the days to come, from the expertise of the Bureau of Geological and Mining Research (BRGM), the national geological service in France.
With this in mind, the BRGM will support the DRC in the work relating to the mapping and certification of its mining resources.
This was informed by the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, on Saturday March 4, 2023, following discussions with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, during a visit to Kinshasa.
The two interlocutors raised, during their exchanges, the question of France’s support for the development of the mining sector in the DRC.
For Emmanuel Macron, this collaboration must allow exploitation of the riches of the subsoil “at the service of the Congolese, in the best scientific conditions”.
As a partner of the DRC, France says it is not ideally placed to get involved in the exploitation of mineral resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
For decades, the mining sector has been more than ever at the center of the interests of several countries which appear to be better armed than Paris.
These include China which, despite recent criticism of its contribution to the DRC under the “deal of the century”, remains one of the biggest players in the local mining sector.
